Trolls! Trolls everywhere!

---------------------------------------------------------------------
In a previous post, stealthy asked me if Copplestone Castings (CC) 10mm trolls could be used as 15mm trolls. Ok, here you have some size comparison pics with  15mm Splintered Light Miniatures (SLM).

CC como 15mm / CC as 15mm

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Armored ogre, viking and from SLM next to a CC troll.

 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Judge for yourselves, but I think that CC figures have enough size to be 15mm troll.

SLM como 10mm / SLM as 10mm
Ogros con armadura (sin pintar) de SLM. Troll y figura de infantería de CC.

SLM armured ogres (unpainted). CC troll and infantry figure (painted).

Another idea I had is to use SLM armured ogres as 10mm trolls. I already had CC trolls, but I could not resist it when I saw the new SLM figures... They remember me one of my favorite Angus Macbride illustrations!

--------------------------------------------------------
My idea was to use CC trolls as cave trolls and SLM ogres as Olog-hai. In the end, they have proved to be a little small (rather, the CC ones are too big), but I'll try fix it raising the base, because I just love these figures!

Nos vemos!

  1. Despite the Peter Jackson films, smaller olog-hai trolls make sense. Tolkien never says they were larger than other trolls, just smarter (for a troll) and resistant to sunlight. In the novels they're even mistaken as large orcs, implying that their actual strength and size is less than their "natural" cousins. This makes sense as well, as in The Fellowship of the Ring the party flees from the cave troll, but in The Return of the King, Pippin slays a Mordor troll by himself, with one sword thrust!
Tolkien never says, but perhaps it should be surmised that Mordor trolls (the olog-hai) are bred with orc or human in the stock, granting the greater intelligence, but losing a bit of the power. So smaller Mordor trolls and larger cave trolls works for me!

    1. Interesting thoughts... Thanks for sharing!

I think so, olog-hai should be deployed in units rather than individually...

  3. I put an order in for some copplestone trolls and some of his 15mm fantasy. First fantasy figures I have bought in a long time.

  4. Wow, that last picture just blew my mind, I have only seen it once, about 24 years ago, in a hobby shop, it was always how I pictures orcs from that day, and was the reason I hate GW cartoony orcs, love that pic, real blast from the past, thanks.
