Second infantry unit [The 13th Warrior]

Una nueva unidad de infantería wendol. Aunque, en realidad, mezclaré las figuras de ambas unidades.

First AAR [The 13th Warrior]

Primera partida de El Guerrero nº 13, jugada a 16 puntos. Las listas fueron:

First The 13th Warrior game, played at 16 points. These were the lists, we used:

Vikings:
1x Buliwyf and companions (foot men at arms),
2x viking huscarls (foot sergeants) and 1x skirmishers (bidowers)

Wendols:
2x wendol infantry (wildmen) and 2x wendol cavalry
(using a similar profile to the wildmen)

En el flanco izquierdo los huscarls forman un muro de escudos para contener la carga de los wendol.

The huscarls form a shield wall in order to press back the wendols charge.

El líder wendol (los cuernos del poder...) desafía a Buliwyf. En un desenlace muy poco cinematográfico, Buliwyf es derrotado de forma abrumadora...

The wendol leader (the horns of power ...) challenges Buliwyf. In a little cinematic ending, Buliwyf is defeated overwhelmingly...

Combates en el centro y flanco derecho. En el centro, el resto de compañeros acaba con una de las unidades de infantería wendol (a costa de muchas bajas). En el flanco derecho la unidad de huscarls resiste las embestidas de la caballería.

Combats in the center and the right flank. In the center, the rest of the companions finish one of the wendol infantry unit (at the cost of heavy casualties). On the right flank huscarls unit withstands the onslaught of wendol cavalry.

Flanco izquierdo: los huscarls acaban con los wendol tras varias rondas de duro combate.

Left flank: huscarls unit kill the wendol infantry after several rounds of hard combat.

La carga de la caballería wendol con su líder al mando provoca más bajas entre los héroes, siendo Hyglak el único superviviente.

The charge of the wendol cavalry unit and his leader causes more casualties within the heroes, being Hyglak the last survivor.

La unidad de caballería wendol del flanco derecho es prácticamente aniquilada.

The wendol cavalry unit on the right flank is almost eliminated.

Con una combinación de disparos y combates los últimos wendol son derrotados.

With a combination of shooting and combat, the las wendol were defeated.




Comentarios de la partida:
Me ha gustado mucho... es un reglamento sencillo y rápido, pero que da mucho juego. Esta vez utilizamos las distancias originales, y llegamos a la conclusión de que hay que modificarlas para 15mm.
Comprobamos que la infantería salvaje es muy dura cuando carga pero extremadamente blandita cuando defiende... también es verdad que se nos olvidó hacer la mayor parte de chequeos de contracarga. Aún así, tendría que pensar algo para dar variedad a la lista... ya sé que en la película no aparece mucho más, pero la lista es bastante sosa. Quizás añadiendo una unidad de élite y unos honderos... Se aceptan ideas.

Comments about the game:
I liked it... is a simple and fast rule set, but gives much play. This time we used the original distances, and we concluded that we must modify them when playing with 15mm.

We found that wild infantry is very hard when attacking but extremely weak when defending ... it is also true that we forgot to do most of countercharge checks. Still, I would have to think on something in order to give some variety to the wendol list ... I know that the film does not show much variety, but just a couple of options could be quite boring to play. Perhaps adding an elite unit and some slingers... Suggestions are welcome.

Buliwyf

No estaba muy contento con la anterior figura que usé para representar a Buliwyf. La figura en sí me encanta, pero no representaba bien al personaje... Después de pintar esta última tanda de personajes me fijé en que una figura (abajo a la izquierda) se parecía bastante a Buliwyf cuando llega al poblado, con el casco y la capa de pieles. El problema es que la figura llevaba un hacha y Buliwyf una espada, así que tuve que hacer una conversión con las figuras ya pintadas... Cambié el hacha por la espada de la figura de la derecha y le hice con masilla un poco de pelo largo.

I was not very happy with the figure I painted before to represent Buliwyf. I like the figure itself, but I think it did not represent the character... After painting this last batch of characters I noticed a figure (below left) that closely resembled Buliwyf when it reaches the village, with his helmet and a fur coat. The problem is that the figure carried an axe and Buliwyf a sword, so I had to do a conversion to the already painted figures... I replaced the axe by the sword of the figure to the right and add some long hair with putty.

Characters (part I) [The 13th Warrior]

Este es el primer grupo de personajes que he pintado. Como la idea es usar Lion Rampat, aún no tengo claro si usaré dos unidades de 6 (men at arms) o una unidad de 12 (veteran sergeants).

This is the first group of characters I´ve painted. As the idea is to use Lion Rampat rules, I´m not yet sure if I will use two units (6 men at arms) or one unit (12 veteran sergeants).

Lo que si tengo claro es que no voy a hacer conversiones (lo siento, no hay casco de gladiador...). He buscado figuras que recuerden a los personajes principales,pero el resto serán genéricas. Todas las figuras son de Splintered Light Miniatures.

 Esta figura tiene dos problemas: uno que tiene barba (y Buliwyf no) y otro que es muy pequeña (incluso más que Ibn). La he puesto sobre una base un poco más elavada...

This figure has two problems: one is that it has a beard (and Buliwyf does not) and the other one is that it is very small (even more than Ibn). I've put it on a base a little more elevated...

13th Warrior - Wendol cavalry

Creo que debo ser de las pocas personas a las que gustó la película de El Guerrero nº 13... Me parece una película de aventuras muy entretenida y siempre que la ponen en la tele me quedo enganchado. En cualquier caso, me he decidido a pintar unas cuantas figuras para poder jugar algunos escenarios basados en la película. Las primeras son 8 jinetes wendol de Splintered Light Miniatures (figuras del clan del oso). Les he cambiado la mayor parte de las lanzas y hachas por antorchas, como en la película.

I think I must be one of the few persons who liked the 13th Warrior movie... I think it´s a very entertaining adventure film and whenever they put it on TV I get hung on it. Any case, I decided to paint a few figures to play some scenarios based on the film. The first are 8 Wendol riders from Splintered Light Miniatures (Bear Clan figures). I've replaced most of the spears and axes with torchs, as in the movie.
