New project: Mordheim in 15mm

Voy a empezar un nuevo proyecto... una vez más. Se trata de pintar unas bandas y hacer un tablero de juego modular para Mordheim... en 15mm. Paro ello pienso usar algunas casas de 4Ground y una mezcla de figuras de Demonworld y Splintered Light Miniatures.

I´ll start a new project... once again. The idea is to paint some warbands and create a modular game board for Mordheim... in 15mm. For this I´m planning to use 4Ground houses, and a mix of Demonworld and Splintered Light Miniatures figures.

Lo primero que voy a hacer es el tablero. Tras varias pruebas decidí usar secciones de 20x20 cm.

The first thing I´ll do is the board. After some tests, I decided to use 20x20 cm sections.

Los materiales que voy usar son: 

- 4 tableros de DM de 20x20 cm

- Un tablero DM de 42x42 cm

- Listones de 1 cm de grosor

- Cola para madera

I´ll use the following items:
- 4 DMF boards (20x20 cm)
- 1 larger DMF board (42x42 cm)
- 1 cm thikness wooden battens
- Wood glue 

La idea es crear una base con el tablero grande y los listones para que encajen las cuatro secciones (combinadas de diferentes formas) sin que se muevan. En este vídeo podéis ver una demostración de cómo funcionaría. Fijaros en el detalle de las esquinas para poder sacar las secciones fácilmente.

The idea is creat a base with the bigger board and use the wooden battens to fit the four sections (in different combinations) without moving. In this video you can see one demostration of how it will works. Pay attention to the cut on the corners, that will help on removing the sections with ease.

Buliwyf

No estaba muy contento con la anterior figura que usé para representar a Buliwyf. La figura en sí me encanta, pero no representaba bien al personaje... Después de pintar esta última tanda de personajes me fijé en que una figura (abajo a la izquierda) se parecía bastante a Buliwyf cuando llega al poblado, con el casco y la capa de pieles. El problema es que la figura llevaba un hacha y Buliwyf una espada, así que tuve que hacer una conversión con las figuras ya pintadas... Cambié el hacha por la espada de la figura de la derecha y le hice con masilla un poco de pelo largo.

I was not very happy with the figure I painted before to represent Buliwyf. I like the figure itself, but I think it did not represent the character... After painting this last batch of characters I noticed a figure (below left) that closely resembled Buliwyf when it reaches the village, with his helmet and a fur coat. The problem is that the figure carried an axe and Buliwyf a sword, so I had to do a conversion to the already painted figures... I replaced the axe by the sword of the figure to the right and add some long hair with putty.

More gamming with my son

Aunque no he podido hacer muchas fotos, he seguido jugando con mi hijo y probando las reglas de Knight Quest. Aquí os dejo unas fotos de una de las partidas... una de las pocas donde mi hijo jugaba con los caballeros, ya que ha desarrollando un curioso gusto por ser el quien maneje a los "monstruos".

Although I could not do many pictures, I´ve continued playing with my son and testing Knight Quest rules during Christmas. Here you have some photos of the one of those games... one of the few where my son played with the knights, as he has developed a peculiar taste for being the one controling the "monsters"...

First Lion Rampant game [LOTR 10mm]

El otro día pude por fin estrenar un par de cosas que tenía pendientes: el reglamento de Lion Rampant y las figuras de ESDLA en 10mm. Las listas fueron las siguientes:

The other day I was finally able to use for the first time a couple of things that were pending: Lion Rampant ruleset and LOTR figures in 10mm. The lists were:

Gondor (22 pts)

Caballeros de Dol Amroth/ Dol Amroth Knights* - Mounted Men at arms (6 pts)

2x Lanceros/Spearmen - Seargents (8 pts)

Arqueros/Archers - Archers (4 pts)

Inicio de la partida: Durante los primeros turnos fallamos bastantes chequeos de órdenes, así que el avance fue un poco lento.

Starting the game: During the first turns we failed many order rolls, so the advance was a little slow.

Todo parecía perdido para los hombres de Gondor, pero el ímpetu de los orcos les llevó a arriesgarse demasiado... Su capitán murió en un desafío contra el capitán de los hombres y las unidades de orcos, que habían derrotado a varias unidades enemigas, estaban tan mermadas que no pudieron hacer frente a la última unidad de lanceros y los arqueros.

All seemed lost for the men of Gondor, but the momentum of the orcs led them to risk too much... Its captain was killed in a challenge against the captain of men and the units of orcs, who had defeated several enemy units, were so decimated that can not deal with the last unit of spearmen and archers.

En un solo turno se cambiaron las tornas, momento en el cual se acabó la partida (el final es aleatorio cuando quedan 5 unidades o menos sobre la mesa). Una unidad de lanceros y otra de arqueros quedaban aún sobre la mesa, pero todos los orcos habían sido exterminados, a excepción de la unidad de hombres del este. ¡Victoria por tanto para los hombres de Gondor!

Suddenly, in one turn the tables turned, at which point the game is over (the game ends randomly once there are five units or less on the table). A unit of spearmen and another of archers were still on the table, but all the orcs had been exterminated, except for men of the east. Victory for the men of Gondor!




Me ha gustado bastante el reglamento. Tiene cosas que me recuerdan a Warmaster (mi reglamento fetiche) pero aplicadas a una escaramuza y planteadas de una forma más sencilla (las órdenes para activar, por ejemplo, en lugar de hacerse con liderazgo 8 se hacen a 5+ en 2d6). Solo hay una cosa que no me ha gustado y que no he entendido muy bien el por qué, y es que hay que dejar 3" de espacio entre unidades (jugando a 28mm). Me parece mucha distancia, aunque como yo voy a jugar a 15mm probablemente reduzca las distancias a la mitad y no se note tanto. En fin, estoy deseando jugar alguna partida más y probarlo con las figuras de 15mm que estoy pintando de El Guerrero nº 13.

I do like the rules. Some things remind me Warmaster rules (my fetish ruleset) but applied to a skirmish game and showed in a simpler form (the activation orders, for example, rather than using leadership 8 are just a 5+ to go with 2d6). There is only one thing I did not like..., you must leave a 3" distance between units (playing with 28mm). It looks like a lot of distance to me, but as I will play 15mm I´ll likely reduce the distances by half and thus it won´t be so much distand. Anyway, I'm looking forward to playing some more games and try the 15mm figures I'm painting for The 13th Warrior.

Characters (part I) [The 13th Warrior]

Este es el primer grupo de personajes que he pintado. Como la idea es usar Lion Rampat, aún no tengo claro si usaré dos unidades de 6 (men at arms) o una unidad de 12 (veteran sergeants).

This is the first group of characters I´ve painted. As the idea is to use Lion Rampat rules, I´m not yet sure if I will use two units (6 men at arms) or one unit (12 veteran sergeants).

Lo que si tengo claro es que no voy a hacer conversiones (lo siento, no hay casco de gladiador...). He buscado figuras que recuerden a los personajes principales,pero el resto serán genéricas. Todas las figuras son de Splintered Light Miniatures.

What if I have clear is that I will not do conversions (sorry, no gladiator helmet ...). I´ve searched figures that recall the main characters, but the rest will be generic figures. All figures used are Splintered Light Miniatures.

 Esta figura tiene dos problemas: uno que tiene barba (y Buliwyf no) y otro que es muy pequeña (incluso más que Ibn). La he puesto sobre una base un poco más elavada...
