-----------------------------------------------
With most of my bases I use a paste called Vandal, used in fine arts to give relief and texture. Once dried it hardens enough so that it can be used to stuck the figs to the base. If the base represents a skirmishing unit or figures are sufficiently far apart (as in this case), I paint them directly onto the base once the paste dries. If the unit is close formation, first I paint the figures and then stuck them to the base (but this way it will be more difficult to paint the base).
--------------------------------------------
In any case, I add some pebbles before the putty dries to give more detail to the base.
---------------------------------------------
We started painting the base with a yellow ocher and Blue Gray Pale (Vallejo 905) for bigger stones.
---------------------------------------------
Now we apply dry brush all over the base, including the gray stones. We started with Desert Yellow (977). Repetimos con Arena Oscura (847).
--------------------------------------------------
Repeat with Dark Sand (847).
------------------------------------------------------
And one last time with Dark Sand mixed 50% with white. Then dilute PVA glue until it is very liquid, almost like milk, and "spot" several areas of the base.
---------------------------------------------------
Crumble the static grass or flock (I use GaleForce Nine Green Meadow flock) like we're rubbing salt.
-----------------------------------------------
Let it dry for a while and then shake it gently to remove from the base anything which has not stuck properly. If you think it is insufficient, you can repeat the last step. In thicker flock piles add very liquid PVA drop to ensure the grip and that it will not unglue. I have also added some tall grass as last detail.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The last step is painting the base edge in black. Some players prefer to paint it the same color as the rest of the base, but I like the contrast.Y ya está.
--------------------------------------------------------
And that's it. I think it's a relatively simple and fast method, I hope you liked it.In closing, I leave you a picture of Vandal paste, in case you want to try it.
Nos vemos!
Thanks! That´s a great and simple tutorial. Your bases look really good. Have to order some of that Vandal stuff!
