And more spectators!

Esta semana he pintado algunas figuras más para el anfiteatro: un guardaespaldas galo (Warlord), tres guardias (Crusader) y siete espectadores (conversiones usando numidas de Wargames Factory y un hoplita sin armadura de Inmortal).

Antes de que os echéis las manos a la cabeza me gustaría decir que el pintado a sido muy rápido, las figuras de espectadores están como decoración de fondo (las de el palco sí que me las he currado un poco más)... eso, y que los numidas de Wargames Factory son las peores figuras que he tenido la desdicha de pintar en muuuuuuchos años. Totalmente planas y sin detalle. Un horror. (afortunadamente fueron muy baratas).

This week I´ve painted some figures for the amphitheater: a galic bodyguard (Warlord), three guards (Crusader) and seven spectators (conversions using Wargames Factory Numidians and one unarmored hoplite (Immortal).

Before you drop your jaw, I must to say that the painting has been very fast, spectator figures are just for background decoration (those of the editor´s box have a little more time)... and also that Wargames Factory numidian figures are the worst I have ever had the misfortune to paint in a loooot years. Totally flat with no detail. A horror. (fortunately, they were very cheap).

¿Cómo va el proyecto? Bastante bien. Para darlo por terminado debería pintar:

- Más espectadores (al menos unos 10)
- Un secutor (conversión)
- Un samnita (conversión)
- Tres andabata (conversiones)
- Comprar y pintar el blister de dimachaeri y provocatores (4 figuras)

Yo creo que es bastante factible dejar el proyecto terminado antes de que acabe el año... ;-)

How's the project going? Pretty good. In order to finish it I should paint:

- More viewers (at least about 10)
- A secutor (conversion)
- A samnite (conversion)
- Three andabata (conversions)
- Buy and paint the blister with provocatores and dimachaeri (4 figures)

I think it is quite feasible to complete the project by the end of the year ... ;-)

 Esta semana he pintado algunos espectadores para el anfiteatro. Dos espectadores y dos trompetistas (Crusader), y un mendigo, una dama noble y su sirvienta (Warlord Games). La dama es la figura a la que le he dedicado más tiempo, el resto son sólo "extras"... :-)

Junto con las otras tres figuras que ya había pintado el palco del editor está casi acabado y las gradas empiezan a llenarse.

This week I´ve painted some spectators for my amphitheater. Two spectators and two trumpeters (Crusader), a beggar, a noble lady and her maid (Warlord Games). The lady is the figure with which I´ve dedicated more time, the rest are just "extras" ... :-)

Along with the other three figures had already painted the editor´s box is almost finished and the stands begin to fill.

Back to work - Spectators

Algunas conversiones de espectadores para el anfiteatro. Son piezas de hoplitas de Inmortal y numidas (la mayoría) de Wargames Factory. He hecho unas pequeñas conversiones con masilla Feroca, pero el problema es que hay muy pocos modelos de cabezas. Las dos figuras de metal son espectadores de Crusader.

Some spectators conversions for the amphitheatre. I´ve used Inmortal hoplites and Wargames Factory (most of them) components. I´ve made some small conversions using Feroca putty, but the lack of head types it´s a problem. The two metal models are Crusader´s spectators.


Y estas son las figuras que usaré para el palco del editor/magistrado. De izquierda a derecha:
Sirviente, estatua de Escipion, sirviente, la mujer del magistrado, el magistrado, lanista y editor.

And these are the models I´ll use for the editor´s or magistrate´s box. From left to right:

Gladiator Arena finished!

Bueno, casi terminada. Aún quiero añadir algunos grafitis y detallitos al palco... Y por supuesto el público!

Pero de momento, ha llegado la hora de recibir a los gladiadores!

Color test

He hecho varias pruebas de color sobre el anfiteatro y creo que voy a optar por dos colores: "E" para las paredes y "C" para los asientos. ¿Qué opináis vosotros?

I´ve made some color tests with the amphitheatre and I think I´ll choose two colors: color "E" for the walls and "C" for the seats. ¿What do you think?

Editor´s Box (amphitheatre WIP - 7)

Me parecía que el palco del editor era demasiado simple, así que antes de pintarlo he decidido hacer unas pequeñas modificaciones.

I thought that the editor´s box was too simple, so, before I paint it, I´ve decided to make some little changes.



Lo primero, el suelo. Usando cartón pluma y una regla he creado este suelo que parece un mosaico.

First of all, the floor. Using foam board and a metric rule I´ve created this "mosaic" floor.



En esta foto se aprecia cómo queda el suelo. Las dos figuras, Anibal y Escipion, servirán de editor y estatua, respectivamente. La pared del fondo la he cubierto con láminas de madera. La estatua irá en el centro y a ambos lados unas cortinas. La parte dibujada en rojo será recortada y colocaré una pequeña puerta de madera. Este acceso improvisado (se me había olvidado poner uno!) me da la excusa para pintar un legionario y usarlo como guardaespaldas.

This picture shows how the floor finally looks. The two figures, Hannibal and Scipio, will serve as editor and statue respectively. I have covered the back wall with sheets of wood. The statue will be in the middle and curtains on either side. The part drawn in red will be cut and I´ll make a small wooden door. This improvised access (I forgot to put one!) gives me an excuse to paint a legionary and use it as bodyguard.



Y este es el aspecto que tiene ahora mismo el anfiteatro. Los toldos no están puestos y falta hacer la puertecita de acceso al palco. El blanco no es el color definitivo, es que le he dado una capita con aguaplas para que tenga textura. Si os fijáis he añadido una madera atravesada encima de la puerta de entrada a la arena. Además de que queda mejor, ahora las puertas pueden abrirse! :-)))

And this is the way the amphitheater it looks now. The awnings are not set and I stilla have to make the little door to access the box. The white color is not definitive, I've just give a white putty brush to give some texture. As you can see, I´ve also added a wood beam above the entrance to the arena. Besides that it looks better, now the doors can be opened! :-)))

Decisions...

Falta poco para completar el anfiteatro. La duda que me surge ahora es: ¿Qué figuras utilizo para decorarlo?

The amphitheatre is almost finished. Now I have one doubt: Wich figures do I choose for the spectators?

Necesito unas 20 figuras y tengo varias opciones:

I´ll need about 20 figures, and I have several options:

Foundry.
Tiene bastante variedad, no sólo civiles "nobles" sino también civiles armados que son fácilmente modificables en espectadores (incluso puedo aprovechar alguno como venator). También tienen figuras que puedo usar para el palco del editor (aunque me sobrase alguna).

Inconveniente: Las minis de Foundry son carísimas... (2,50€ cada una)

It has a lot of variety, not only roman nobles, but also armed civilians than can be easily converted into spectators (I can even use some of them as venators). They also have some figures I can use for the editor´s box.

Inconvenience: Foundry is pretty expensive... (2,50€ each)

Steve Barber.
Tiene mucha más variedad que Foundry, incluyendo un editor con heraldos. Lo malo es que hay que comprarlo online. Aún así, 21 figuras (incluyendo editor y heraldos) salen por 31,72€. Más o menos 1,51€ cada miniatura.

Lo malo (y es muy malo) es que son a escala 25mm. Es posible que no queden mal, al estar más elevados que los gladiadores, pero no sé si merece la pena arriesgarse...

He has much variety than Foundry, including an editor with heralds. I´ll have to pay postage but, even with this extra, 21 figures (inclusing editor and heralds) will cost less than 32€ (1,5€ each figure).

The inconvenience (and it is a serious one) is that the figures scale is 25mm. Probably they will not look too bad, as they are higher than gladiators, but i´m not sure to take the risk.


Crusader.
Es la última opción. Son de la misma marca que los gladiadores que estoy usando, así que encajan perfectamente. Además, cada figura saldría a 1,65€. Para ser 28mm son bastante más baratos que Foundry, y sólo un poco más caros que los de Steve Barber.

Problema: tienen pocas opciones, sólo cuatro civiles, y tendría que convertir algunas figuras para dar variedad (por ejemplo las de milicia). Y no habría mujeres espectadoras.

The last option. They will fit perfectly, as my gladiators are also crusader. Each figure will cost 1,65€ so they are not too expensive.Inconvenience: very little variety. Just four civilians so I´ll have to make some conversions (using roman leves or numidian figures, for example). And there won´t be women spectators.


Como extra (si opto por los 28mm), estas figuras de Warlord estarían incluidas 100% seguro en el palco del editor... :-)

Ya está pintada la arena! El resultado con la masailla es bastante bueno, aunque seguramente le dé un retoque al elevador, que no me acaba de convencer cómo ha quedado...
